NS3 Protein

NS3 is a multifunctional protein consisting of 618 amino acids, exhibiting protease, helicase, nucleoside 5′-triphosphatase (NTPase), and 5′-terminal RNA triphosphatase activities. It plays a crucial role in the processing of viral polyproteins and genome replication. The N-terminal 180 amino acids of NS3 form a serine protease domain, with NS2B acting as a membrane-anchoring cofactor essential for its proteolytic activity. The C-terminal domain of NS3 is involved in viral RNA replication. As a result, disrupting the NS3 protein proves fatal to the virus, making it a promising target for antiviral drugs.
