  • Q1- What is ViralEpi v1.0 all about?

    • ViralEpi.v1.0 is the resource for epigenomic methylation profile of viruses i.e. two double stranded DNA viruses namely, Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and Hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is freely available at http://172.16.1.37/manojk/viralepi for the research community working in the area for epigenomics. Additionally, it also contains very interactive Viral EpiGenome Browser.
  • Q2- What are the unique features of ViralEpi v1.0?
    • There are various resources available to provide host methylation events. However, upto now no one has focused on very important aspect of viral epigenomic events. We have compiled viral methylome especially of EBV and HBV from various studies pertaining to diverse diseases. It is the first of its kind and very important since it addresses landscape of methylation events from various diseases including virus mediated carcinomas.
  • Q3- What type of data does it contain?
    • It contains manually curated experimentally proven methylation patterns (Methylome) of EBV and HBV genome generated from clinical samples, diseased conditions and cell lines from various studies
  • Q4- Does it contain human methylation pattern also?
    • There are various resources available to provide host methylation events. However, VIralEPi v1.0 is a first resource and completly dedicated for viral methylome data associated with diseases including different carcinomas.
  • Q5- How to search clinically significant methylation data in ViralEpi?
    • User can search the database using disease name, cell lines, methylation site, methylation status, virus name etc. using combination of these criteria or alone.
  • Q6- What types of diseases does it address?
    • It addresses important diseases including various carcinomas such as Burkitt lymphoma (BL), Hodgkin Disease (HD), Nasal lymphoma (NL), Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD), Nasopharangeal carcinoma (NPC), Infectious Mononucleosis (IM), Lymphoproliferative disease (LPD) caused by Epstein Barr Virus and Hepatitis, Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), Liver Cirrhosis caused by Hepatitis B Virus..
  • Q7- What are the clinically significant fields included in ViralEpi?
    • It mainly includes diverse knowledge of viral methylome i.e. methylation sites, Methylation status and percentage, specimen or sample type, cell lines, sample size, disease/histology, detection techniques, references etc.
  • Q8. In case of any query regarding the resource, whom to contact?
    • We value your feedback. If you have any query or comments, Please email us. Thank you for using ViralEpi.
