Innate Receptors
These are component of the innate immune system which is expressed on an array of immune cells. These pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) can sense two classes of molecules; 1) Pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) that are expressed on various bacteria’s, parasites, viruses, and fungi’s. 2)Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), the endogenous cellular components released during cell damage or death. These evolutionary conserved PRRs maintain many homeostasis and also form the first line of defense against many infectious diseases, primarily mediated via phagocytosis and induction of autophagy, antigen presentation, triggering cytokine secretion, and induction of adaptive immunity. Stimulating innate receptors have been proposed to a therapeutic approach for many diseases.
